Third Form Rowing Camp, August 2008 |
|
A group of thirty new boys attended the rowing camp at the end of August. The unseasonably cold weather had threatened to put a dampener on the camp but as luck would have it the weather improved just in time. There were the usual swimming tests, capsize drills and sessions in singles, doubles, quads and octuples. It was quite remarkable how much some of the boys had managed to master by the end of three days – it must be the high quality of the coaching!
The traditional bbq was held on the Saturday evening and Rupert, Chris and Matt successfully fed over 150 on what was probably the best evening of the entire summer. Many of the parents remarked at how beautiful our boathouses and our site are. The fact that they were still chatting and drinking at 11 o’clock indicates that a good evening was had by all.
On the final day a sculling skills’ competition was held leading to more wet boys and much laughter. Many thanks to all the staff who helped out over the three days and to my various monitors who were drawn from the seniors, the J16s and the J15s. Congratulations to all who took part for being one of the nicest groups I can remember.
